To build a bench
2023
Solo exhibition at Turf Project Space, Croydon, featuring The Bench, Letting Go Plates and a selection of original prints.
Press release text:
Through celebrating memories and recollections we can keep creating new meeting spaces.
An alternative public bench sets the scene for this exhibition. Created in response to the effects of lockdowns on interactions with public space and rediscovering its value based on the artist’s experience of living in Croydon at the time. It sits amongst photographic studies, from floor prints to cyanotypes, echoing the process of building new forms out of found material and memories. To build a bench is an opportunity to continue with its transformation into a seat encouraging mindfulness activities with collaborations and live performances from guest artists ready to welcome all and contribute to the local community in Croydon.
Events during the exhibition, free and open to all:
Poetry workshop with Ana Maria Lima Dimitrijevic
Live @ The Bench Closing party with live music contributions from special guests
As part of the exhibition To build a bench, I hosted events as an opportunity for collaboration, inviting artists and the local community to enjoy the space created.
